Mission Purpose

The Bayou Church heads to Alaska each spring to partner with Alaska Missions as we serve mushers and the local population at the finish line of the Iditarod—the last great race on earth.

We will reach into the native community of Nome as well as the musher sub-culture of Alaska. We are looking for team members with servant’s hearts and can-do attitudes who are willing to roll up their sleeves and serve in whatever ways are needed to show the love of Christ.

Date: March 12-20, 2020
Destination: Nome, Alaska
Trip Leader: Blaise Gregory
Cost: $2,100

What Will We Do?

There will be an opportunity for a variety of ministries, both physical and spiritual.

The volunteers will reach out to the community of Nome in many ways including service at the concession stand at the Lonnie O’Connor Iditarod Basketball Classic, Recreation Center clean-up, Bering Sea Women’s Shelter, Prison Ministry, hot cocoa and “Mush To Life” booklet distribution at the Nome-Golovin-Nome Snow Machine Race, children’s ministries, Community Service Patrol and cook team. We will also volunteer with the Iditarod race through finish line security, concessions sales, working the reception desk, dog lot set-up, headquarters clean-up and serving at the Awards Banquet.

What is Our Schedule?

We are traveling to Nome, Alaska to reach the people of Nome for Christ.

Below is a general schedule of planned activities. As anyone who has been on a mission trip before knows, sometimes God opens up opportunities to do things that we didn’t originally plan to do.
