The Table and The Tribe

January 21, 2026

Who you let sit close to you will shape who you become.

Some people deplete your faith.
Some people distract your purpose.
Some people drain your courage.

The wrong voices will pull you from your calling. The right voices will push you toward it.

The Four Voices you need in your Tribe

1. TRUTH-TELLER

You need at least one voice that loves your holiness more than your happiness.

“So the Lord sent Nathan to David.” 2 Samuel 12:1 (CSB)

“Nathan replied to David, ‘You are the man!’” 2 Samuel 12:7 (CSB)

Accountability is not something done to you, it’s something done for you.

Accountability isn’t just calling people out - it’s calling them up.

2. COURAGE-BUILDER

You need people who remind you what God said when fear gets loud.

“Jonathan came to David in the wilderness and strengthened his hand in God, saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, for my father Saul’s hand will not lay a hand on you. You yourself will be king over Israel, and I will be next to you.’”
1 Samuel 23:16-17 (CSB)

3. LINE-HOLDER

The Three Mighty warriors (Josheb-basshebeth, Eleazar, Shammah)

14At that time David was in the stronghold, and a Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. 15David was extremely thirsty and said, ‘If only someone would bring me water to drink from the well at the city gate of Bethlehem!’ 16So three of the warriors broke through the Philistine camp and drew water from the well at the gate of Bethlehem. They brought it back to David, but he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out to the Lord. 17David said, ‘Lord, I would never do such a thing! Is this not the blood of men who risked their lives?’ So he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three warriors.” 2 Samuel 23:14-17 (CSB)

Line-holders are the friends who stay in the fight when it would be easier to quit.

4. FUTURE-PROTECTOR

Future-protectors are the people who love you too much to let you destroy what God is building.

20Benaiah son of Jehoiada was the son of a brave man from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. Benaiah killed two sons of Ariel of Moab, and he went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 21He also killed an Egyptian, an impressive man. Even though the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went down to him with a staff, snatched the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and then killed him with his own spear. 22These were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who had a reputation among the three warriors. 23He was the most honored of the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. David put him in charge of his bodyguard.”
2 Samuel 23:20-23 (CSB)

Truth-tellers keep you honest.
Courage-builders keep you going.
Line-holders keep you grounded.
Future-protectors keep you alive.

Table and Tribe Questions:

  1. Who tells me the truth?
  2. Who strengthens my faith?
  3. Who holds the line for me?
  4. Who protects my future?

When Christ’s approval becomes enough, only the right voices get a seat at the table.
