No Condemnation
May 31, 2026
“The greatest book in the world is the Bible. The greatest letter in that book is Paul’s letter to the Romans. The greatest chapter in that letter is chapter 8. And the best verse is the first verse.”
— John Piper
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation (katakrima) for those in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 (CSB)
Meaning: A judicial sentence of guilt resulting in punishment.
Three ways we typically live under condemnation
- We condemn ourselves
- Others condemn us
- Satan condemns us
“1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus 2because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2 (CSB)
To be IN CHRIST means:
- His death became your death. (Galatians 2:20)
- His resurrection became your resurrection. (Romans 6:4)
- His victory became your victory. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
- His righteousness became your righteousness. (Romans 3:22)
“3For what the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering, 4in order that the law’s requirement would be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:3-4 (CSB)
You cannot outrun condemnation until you run INTO Christ.
“10When Jesus stood up, He said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ 11‘No one, Lord,’ she answered. ‘Neither do I condemn you,’ said Jesus. ‘Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.’” John 8:10-11 (CSB)
Jesus gave her a grace-filled word: Neither do I condemn you
Jesus also gave her a truthful warning: Sin no more
Four Declarative Truths for Those In Christ:
- Sin Doesn’t Own Me
- Shame Can’t Hold Me
- The Savior Won’t Leave Me
- The Spirit Now Leads Me
Our sin was nailed to Jesus on the cross and the hammer of God’s mercy has no claw.
Stop letting condemnation speak louder than the cross.
