Made to Serve
Make a Difference - Part 2

May 18, 2025

You’re not here by accident—you’re here on assignment.

Last week: God made you on purpose, for a purpose—and He doesn’t waste your past, He weaves it into your purpose.

How do I actually make a difference?

What can I tangibly do?

How can God use me?

Your simple yes to serve could change someone’s life—and your own.

Truths About Serving:

Truth #1 - Jesus Modeled Serving

24When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant. 25But Jesus called them together and said, ‘You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.’” Matthew 20:24-28 (NLT)

4So He got up from the table, took off His robe, wrapped a towel around His waist, 5and poured water into a basin. Then He began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel He had around Him. ... 12After washing their feet, He put on His robe again and sat down and asked, ‘Do you understand what I was doing? 13You call me “Teacher” and “Lord,” and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.’” John 13:4-5, 12-15 (NLT)

Jesus didn’t ask for titles—He asked for towels. Let’s follow suit.

Truth #2 - Saved People Serve People

1When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that He was back home. 2Soon the house where He was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While He was preaching God’s word to them, 3four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, ‘My child, your sins are forgiven.’ ... 10Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!’ 12And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, ‘We’ve never seen anything like this before!’” Mark 2:1-5, 10-12 (NLT)

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is carry the corner of someone’s mat.

Truth #3 - Serving Transforms a Crowd Into Family

“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)

Serving is one of the fastest ways to build friendships, grow spiritually, and become part of something bigger than yourself.
