A Heart Like His
July 12, 2026
Delayed obedience is still disobedience. When Jesus tells us to, “Go,” He’s not asking for our opinion; He’s testing our trust.
“Lord, help me be obedient.”
Sometimes, your presence is the most powerful form of love.
The mission is whoever is in front of you.
Because disciples don’t just believe in Jesus; they become like Jesus.
- They go where He sends.
- They love who He loves.
- They abide where He dwells.
1. A Disciple Goes
“2He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.’” Luke 10:2-3 (NIV)
The issue has never been Jesus’ calling. The issue has always been our obedience.
Have I become so busy building my kingdom that I’ve neglected His?
Has my pursuit of comfort quietly replaced my pursuit of Christ?
Whose voice carries more weight in my life: my fear or my Father’s?
The Shepherd is greater than the wolves.
“18He replied, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.’” Luke 10:18-20 (NIV)
Don’t find your identity in what you do for God. Find your identity in belonging to God.
Where is Jesus sending you?
2. A Disciple Loves
“25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he asked, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ 26‘What is written in the Law?’ Jesus replied. ‘How do you read it?’ 27He answered, ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”’; and, ‘“Love your neighbor as yourself.”’ 28‘You have answered correctly,’ Jesus replied. ‘Do this and you will live.’” Luke 10:25-28 (NIV)
The priest asked, “What will happen to me if I stop?”
The Samaritan asked, “What will happen to him if I don’t?”
Religion can see pain and keep walking. Compassion sees pain and moves toward it.
Before we are the Samaritan, we are the man dying in the ditch.
Genuine faith doesn’t just receive the grace of God; it reflects the grace of God.
Will you love intentionally this week?
3. A Disciple Abides
The problem was not Martha’s service. The problem was that her service became separated from His presence.
“‘41Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, 42but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)
The greatest need in your life is not a lighter schedule. It is a deeper abiding.
Will you abide in Him?
So we go because He came. We love because He loved. We abide because He welcomed us.
Where is Jesus saying, “Go?”
Who is Jesus asking you to love?
What is keeping you from abiding in Him?
