The Holy Spirit is not a spiritual accessory or afterthought. He is God Himself living in us.
During this season we’ve seen the Holy Spirit:
- Draw people back to Himself.
- Answer bold prayers.
- Heal bodies and calm anxious minds.
- Restore broken relationships.
- Break chains and lift heavy burdens.
- Provide exactly what was needed, at exactly the right time.
- Take simple acts of obedience and turn them into eternal impact.
- Move in ways only He could get the credit for.
Individual stories
A woman in our church has been out of church for 20 years and started coming during 21 days of prayer from the invitation of a friend and is absolutely loving it and totally engaged and now feels called to mission work.
During our 21 Days of Prayer, someone asked us to pray for a dear friend who had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of lung cancer. Doctors planned to remove an entire lobe of the lung. But during surgery, they discovered the “tumor” was mostly inflammation, and the cancer that was there was only a tenth of the size they expected. It was removed completely. No radiation. No chemo. No lymph node involvement. What was thought to be aggressive turned out to be a non-aggressive type. We believe the Holy Spirit touched her body and completely turned that diagnosis around, and today that person is praising God for what He has done.
For years, someone had prayed that God would align their gifts with their career. During a season of prayer, they sensed the Holy Spirit nudging them to reach out to a former coworker at a local nonprofit. At first, the position that fit their gifts had just been filled. But two weeks later, the person who accepted the job had to withdraw. The coworker reached back out, they prayed about it together, and it became clear this was where the Holy Spirit was leading. Now, just weeks into the role, they say they have no doubt the Holy Spirit placed them there. Every meeting begins with prayer, people serve others with the love of Jesus, and work no longer feels like work.
After so much darkness and sin in my own life, the Lord has broken me in the best way. I now have humility. And when today, I see people I love struggling with some of the worst kinds of sin, instead of judging them or running the other way, the Holy Spirit is prompting me to find ways to love them while still holding them accountable. Even when someone has brought darkness upon themselves, who am I to not show them the same grace and mercy my Heavenly Father has shown me?
To those who aren’t followers of Jesus:
“1There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. 2After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. ‘Rabbi,’ he said, ‘we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.’ 3Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.’ 4‘What do you mean?’ exclaimed Nicodemus. ‘How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?’ 5Jesus replied, ‘I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. 7So don’t be surprised when I say, “You must be born again.” 8The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.’” John 3:1-8 (NLT)
Have you been born again by the Spirit?
To those who are already believers:
“16So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. 19When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. 22But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. 25Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.” Galatians 5:16-26 (NLT)
